Switzerland!

January 20, 2010

Hello everyone! I wanted to blog about my recent adventure to Switzerland and fill you in on some exciting news! For those who don’t know, my husband, Jared,  is working on his PhD in Chemistry at the University of Illinois and is quickly approaching graduation! In the Chemistry field, most grad students do some sort of post-doctorate work before getting into their career. (It’s very much like a paid internship) So we narrowed down the options and were given an opportunity to relocate to Switzerland where he will do a 2 year post-doc! Which means of course, we will be MOVING TO SWITZERLAND this summer!! Eee! I can hardly believe it! We took a short trip to where we will be living last week so I wanted to blog about it and share some of the photos from the trip!

It is an absolutely beautiful country! Unfortunately we only had one partial day for picture taking because the first day Jared met with his future boss and co-workers and gave a talk about his research. It was an all day event and I was stuck in the hotel room that day. It was a long trip and the time difference had us a bit off schedule so we slept for the better half of day two…but it was raining all day anyway so we didn’t miss out on much. Day three started out gloomy but we got an afternoon’s worth of sunshine to go explore. Everything is a train ride away so we tried to fit in what sightseeing we could in the amount of time we were given. We were able to visit Ouchy, Chillon and Lausanne but the rest we were only able to see from our train window.  I know we will have plenty of time to explore once we make the big move so you can expect more photos then! 🙂 For now, here are a few images I was able to capture during our short visit. Hope you enjoy!

We flew Swiss Air and I highly recommend this airline!

We took the train everywhere we needed to go

This is where Jared will be working. The building had the table of elements on it. Kinda cool for a Chemistry building! 🙂

This is where the french pirates eat. 😉

Lake Geneva = serenity

The Alps = love

we made friends with the wildlife 🙂

You can be certain there will be many more posts with photos of Switzerland to come! We feel blessed to have this opportunity and hope that those who can and are willing, will come and visit us while we are there! We would love to share the experience with you! Love you all!
